Tour of Nevada City - Excitement from Start to Finish

One of the prominent bike events is the Nevada City Classic; it’s one of the oldest and largest bicycle race in California, located in the foothills of Sierra Nevada. Cyclists will flood Nevada City on 21, June, 2009, for the Father’s day annual Nevada City Classic, in the beautiful foothills of Nevada County.

The Tour of Nevada City is a big event in Nevada City. On the day of the race, the city’s population of 3001 swells by several thousand spectators, who line the course in front of old vintage Victorian homes as they cheer the cyclists while they negotiate a fast, hilly and technical course. The streets of the historic district are draped with flags and bunting giving you a feel that the Nevada City Classic is a race for the strong as they maneuver their way up the steep hills.

The Nevada City Bicycle Classic draws spectators and height of passion that only can be found in Nevada City.

In 1960, Charlie Allert, owner of a print shop and bike buff kicked off the Nevada City Classic originally called “The Tour of Nevada City” - cyclists soon came to know the Nevada City Classis as the “toughest one-day bicycle tours to be found in the United States.

The Nevada City Classic is thought as the most brutal complex 1 day-course in America. The race is 1.1 mile race, with 7-turns, counter-clockwise loop with 120′+/- of climbing per lap, reaching speeds of 50+ mph on the straight-away downhill across the start/finish. The Nevada City Classis course is 1/3-downhill, 1/3-uphill and 1/3 rolling/flats.

The Nevada City Classic begins at 1:00 p.m. till 6:30p.m. Experienced cyclists from many different parts of the region ride in the Nevada City Classic. This year Nevada City Classic hopes to have some of the “Tour of California” riders at this year’s race.

The Nevada City Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Nevada City Classic as well as, which also hosts five more top-rated cycling tours throughout the Northern California area.
