Nose jobs, otherwise known as Rhinoplasty, have gained a wide spreads popularity over the past decade and is at the top of cosmetic surgeries. A rhinoplasty is a procedure that changes the structure and shape of the nose and can be done along with another popular procedure called a septoplasty (which focuses on the inside structure of the nose) for both cosmetic and practical reasons.
Nose Job Recovery:
As with most operations, one should anticipate a certain level of pain and discoloration during the healing process. The surgeon will most likely prescribe some form of pain medication. Expect bruising, in most rhinoplastys the cartridge that makes up the interior nose is broken and reset. This causes the bruises and takes a few weeks to fade, if however the surgeon was able to avoid breaking the septum, healing will take a fraction of the time.
While you heal from the surgery both the area around the nose and the nose itself will be very swollen and sensitive. On average the time it takes to heal is dependent on the type of nose job. In closed type of rhinoplasty recovery averages three to six weeks, where as an open procedures is anywhere from one to six months. At all time heed the advice if the surgeon and do not put yourself in a situation where there may any kind of stress on the nose.
You will likely be away from your normal routine, including you job for seven days. In order to keep the new shape of the nose packing will be placed in the nasal cavity for the first few days. It depends on the nature of your work as to whether or not you will be able to go back within the week. The nose tends to run with blood for a week or more after the surgery and the swelling/discoloration will depend on how quickly your body recovers.
Keep your spirits high and your head up….. I mean it keeping your head elevated while you sleep or when your setting will help to reduce swelling and help prevent fluids accumulating in the nose.
Be patient and keep the head elevated as it will aid in keeping the swelling down and stop nasty mucus from pooling in the nasal cavity which can lead to infection. All the best in recovering from your nose job!
